Skyler Kamaka was crowned Miss Hawaii 2012 on June 9 and she didn’t waste any time getting out into the community. Being808 caught up with her between events and asked if she could share some health tips. As it turns out, she recently graduated from Concordia University with a degree in exercise and sports science, with a minor in coaching. With her extensive background in nutrition and exercise, she was excited to share some ideas for living a healthier lifestyle:
Drink More Water – Understanding that you might have a coffee or soft drink routine, she suggests having at least a glass of water before or after meals.
Practice Moderation – If you’re having a “cheat” meal or snack, she encourages eating small portions. Also, try to have fruit before or after to put some balance in your diet.
Keep the Body Fueled - She agrees that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” so eat a big breakfast and have healthy snacks throughout the day, especially between lunch and dinner.
Exercise – It is important to get some type of exercise every day, whether it’s a 10-minute walk during lunch or regularly taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
Kamaka says these tips may seem small, but they can make a huge difference.
