Maintaining mobility in the thoracic spine (t-spine) is important to prevent postural kyphosis, commonly known as a hunchback. A common indication of a tight t-spine is difficulty lifting the shoulders or even pinching one’s shoulder blades together. Miss Hawaii 2012 Skyler Kamaka suggests doing a corrective exercise called a t-spine rotation. As a warm-up, she also demonstrates a yoga posture called the child’s pose. Kamaka is a recent graduate of Concordia University with a degree in exercise and sports science.
